Extreme droughts to become up to seven times more frequent in central Europe, scientists expect

Extreme droughts will be up to seven times more frequent in Central Europe if greenhouse gas production increases significantly.

A research team from the Faculty of Environment of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague and the Helmholtz Centre for the Environment (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany, examined the characteristics of the 2018-2019 drought using long-term climate data from 1766 to 2019. These were two of the three hottest summer seasons ever recorded.
