The snowfall of the week before last and the subsequent melting of the snow from last week brought enough water to fill our two new reservoirs in the Karlův luh catchment.
The volume of water retained in this way exceeds 130 cubic metres, which would otherwise have drained out of the area for good. The water can be used as a source for irrigation, for watering animals, by slowing down runoff during heavy rainfall it can help prevent associated damage and during the warmer months it will naturally cool the microclimate in the surrounding area and thus reduce excessive evaporation of moisture from the soil into the atmosphere. Thus, the ponds perfectly fulfil their purpose.
